AMES, Iowa - Renae Pruess had a game-high 21 kills and Brittany Dalager added 18 kills and 18 digs, but the Cyclones dropped a tough match to Colorado, 3-2, Wednesday night at Hilton Coliseum. With the loss, Iowa State falls to 10-13 overall and 2-10 in Big 12 play. Iowa State hit .536 from the floor in game three, which is a season-high for ISU. Colorado was led by Maragda Santillana, who had 20 kills and 11 digs. Colorado improves to 15-7 overall.
The Cyclones played a solid match against Colorado, hitting .134 to Colorado's .238. The Buffaloes outkilled the Cyclones, 68-64, and outdug ISU, 74-58. But the Cyclones had a great night on the service line with 13 aces compared to Colorado's three.
Freshman Nicole Lorenzen drilled nine kills and senior Dana Koziol had 13 digs to help the Cyclones' cause. Sophomore Ashlie McWee had seven kills and seven block assists and sophomore Katie Kruenegel added six kills and three total blocks. Iowa State played its first five-game match of the season. Senior setter Lindsey Chapman had 26 assists.
The two teams played pretty evenly in game one with each team having 16 kills. The Buffaloes had the slight edge in hitting percentage with .227 to ISU's .136. But the difference in the game was at the service line. Dalager served nine-straight points, including three aces. The Cyclones took game one, 31-29.
In game two, the Cyclones struggled, hitting just .049 compared to Colorado's .421. The Buffaloes had 18 kills to ISU's 13 and won the game, 30-18. The two teams took a 1-1 tie to the lockerroom.
The Cyclones came back strong in game three, hitting .536 in the game compared to .167 from Colorado. Iowa State had only two hitting errors in the game and pounded 17 kills to Colorado's 13. Iowa State went on to win the game, 30-18, and go up 2-1 in the match.
In the fourth game, Iowa State hit .071 and Colorado hit .186. But each team had 15 kills in the game. It was close throughout, but Colorado pulled away for a 30-27 win.
In the last game, the Buffaloes pounded eight kills to ISU's three and hit .130 from the floor compared to ISU's -.111 to take the fifth game, 15-10.
"I am very proud of the kids tonight," head coach Linda Crum said. "I thought they did a great job stepping back up in game three after losing game two. Yes we lost the match and yes, we are disappointed, but we took a big step tonight with our fight and our composure and we played very well. I thought we were very efficient in serving."

Iowa State continues its homestretch when it plays host to Texas on Sunday, Nov. 2, at Hilton Coliseum, starting at 1 p.m.
