AMES, Iowa ? Six Cyclones were named to the volleyball academic all-Big 12 Conference teams, the league office announced Tuesday. Lindsey Chapman, Michelle Gannon, Dana Koziol, Nicole Lorenzen and Renae Pruess were named to the first team, while Christine Smeele was a second-team selection.
Koziol and Pruess both earned academic all-conference recognition for the third-straight season, while Smeele and Chapman earned honors for the second time. Koziol (Norfolk, Neb.) earned a 3.79 GPA in accounting and Pruess (Clarence, Iowa) earned a 3.50 GPA in agricultural systems technology. Chapman (Bowling Green, Ohio) had a 3.64 GPA in industrial engineering, while Smeele (Mundelein, Ill.) earned a 3.10 GPA in marketing.
Gannon (Scottsdale, Ariz.), a senior in child and family services with a 3.70 GPA, joined Lorenzen (Fremont, Iowa), a redshirt freshman with a 3.56 GPA in chemical engineering, as first-time honorees.
Nominated by each school's director of academic services and the media relations offices, the volleyball academic all-league squad consists of 42 members on the first team and eight on the second team. First-team members have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second-team members earned at least a 3.0.
