COLUMBIA, Mo. ? Katie Kruenegel had seven kills and Renae Pruess added six, but Iowa State fell to Missouri, 3-0, Wednesday night in Columbia. Freshman Katie Churm added a career-high 14 assists and six digs from the Cyclones. With the loss, Iowa State falls to 11-18 on the season and 3-15 in Big 12 play. Lisa Boyd led the way for Missouri with 20 kills as the Tigers improve to 18-9 overall and 11-7 in league play.
The tigers dominated the match offensively and defensively, hitting .440 from the floor and collecting 52 digs. Missouri committed just 10 hitting errors on 91 attacks. The Cyclones were limited to 26 kills, and .059 hitting percentage and 30 digs.
Freshman Nicole Lorenzen had five kills and four digs and senior Michelle Gannon added three kills, one assist and one dig. Senior Dana Koziol led the way defensively with 10 digs and sophomore Ashlie McWee had two kills and two block assists to help the Cyclone cause on the night.
In game one, Iowa State hit .000 compared to .613 from Missouri. The Cyclones had seven kills, while the Tigers had 20 kills and just one error. Missouri defeated Iowa State, 30-9.
Iowa State had 13 kills in game two, but Missouri pounded 15 kills with just four hitting errors. The Tigers held ISU to .158 hitting from the floor compared to .355 from Missouri. The second game went to Missouri, 30-19. The two teams went into the locker room with Missouri leading, 2-0.
“I thought we did a good job after game one of being more competitive,” head coach Linda Crum said. “The kids did a nice job of getting back into the game.”
Game three was all Missouri as the Tigers hit .345 from the floor and had 15 kills compared to just six kills from ISU. Missouri had just five hitting errors and took game three, 30-16.
“Overall, I didn't think we served real well, nor did we defend real well,” Crum said. “Missouri outdug us and we just didn't challenge them. However, I thought Katie Kruenegel had a really good match. She really kept us on pace and hit solidly from the floor. I though Michelle (Gannon) came in and did a great job and Katie Churm did a nice job setting for us tonight.”
Iowa State returns home to play host to Oklahoma on Wednesday, Nov. 26, starting at 7 p.m. It is the Cyclones last home match of the season and they will honor senior Lisa Chapman, Michelle Gannon, Dana Koziol and Renae Pruess.
