DALLAS, Texas - Iowa State freshman Will Blalock scored 10 of his career-high 23 points in the final four minutes in a win at Drake, earning Phillips 66 Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors for the week ending Dec. 21. He was chosen by a select panel of media covering Big 12 basketball.
Blalock's clutch play late in the game helped ISU halt a Drake rally, as ISU won its first road game of the year with an 83-77 victory over the Bulldogs. Blalock made three baskets in the final 1:15 of the game, each one answering a Drake score. The Boston, Mass., native, ended the game going 7-for-10 from the field and 8-for-8 from the foul line, including a 6-for-6 effort in the second half. He became the 15th rookie in school history to score 20 or more points in a single game as a freshman, and his 23-point performance ties for the 13th-best single game output for an ISU freshman.
On the season, Blalock is shooting 94.4 percent (17-18) from the free-throw line and 54.5 percent (6-11) from 3-point range. He has made his last 13 free throws.
