DALLAS - Iowa State freshman Curtis Stinson scored 19 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in the 68-61 win against Xavier and is the Phillips 66 Big 12 Rookie of the Week. It is the second straight week a Cyclone has earned the honor after freshman Will Blalock was chosen by the media panel last week.
Stinson recorded his second double-double of his young career, scoring 19 points and tallying a career-tying-high 10 boards, leading ISU in both categories against Xavier. The Bronx, N.Y., guard once again filled out the stat sheet, registering three assists and recording a career-high four steals for the game. Stinson, who went 9-for-15 from the floor against the Musketeers, is averaging 13.3 ppg, the best scoring output for a Big 12 freshman. He ranks second in the league in assists (5.1 apg) and sixth in the league in steals (2.3). He is second on the team in both scoring and rebounding and first in steals and assists.
Texas Tech senior Andre Emmett came up big in the 65-59 win against Iowa last week. The guard/forward scored 23 points and for the second time this season is the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week.
