AMES, Iowa (AP) - Jackson Vroman had 17 points and 11 rebounds and Iowa State used a 27-6 run spanning the two halves to break the game open in beating Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne 78-51 Friday night in the Cyclone Challenge.
Jared Homan added 14 points, while Jake Sullivan and Curtis Stinson scored 13 each for Iowa State (3-0), which improved to 16-1 in its own tournament and will play Idaho State in the championship game Saturday night. Idaho State beat Arkansas-Little Rock 51-47.
IPFW (0-5) shot just 31 percent but stayed within striking distance for much of the first half. The Mastodons trailed only 33-26 after Ric Wyand's 3-pointer with 2:50 left in the half.
But Sullivan hit two jumpers as Iowa State closed the half with an 8-1 run to open a 41-27 lead. The Cyclones then outscored IPFW 19-5 to open the second half, stretching the lead to 60-32.
Sullivan hit a 3-pointer and fed Homan for a dunk during a 13-2 run that made it 78-47.
Stinson finished that run with seven straight points - a 3-pointer and two layups in transition. A 6-foot-2 freshman, Stinson shot 6-for-9 and added six rebounds and five assists. Vroman was 7-for-9 from the field and had four assists.
Wyand led IPFW with 15 points and Terry Collins scored 10.
Iowa State constantly beat IPFW down the floor for easy baskets in transition, got to the free throw line by taking the ball aggressively to the basket and outrebounded the Mastodons 45-36. The Cyclones had a 40-18 edge in inside points.
