AMES, Iowa - Iowa State volleyball head coach Linda Crum has announced that Irvine, Calif., prep Katie Churm will join the Cyclone volleyball team this fall. Churm rounds out a 2003 class that includes Katie Jessen of Kansas City, Mo., and Amanda Amon of Williamston, Mich.
"We are extremely excited to have Katie join our program," Crum said. "She is an outstanding person, not only athletically but academically. She comes from an excellent background in volleyball. Her skill level, passion for the game and athletic ability are unmatched. She will bring a lot of experience to Iowa State, which will help us go to another level."
Churm earned first-team all-city honors three straight years (2000-02) at Northwood High School in Irvine, Calif. She also earned first-team all-CIF in 2002 and first-team all-Pacific Coast during her final three years in high school. She was a varsity captain from 2000-02 as well as MVP of the varsity volleyball team. Churm's a member of the Laguna Beach Asics-18s volleyball club, which won the prestigious Volleyball Festival in Sacramento, Calif.
The defensive specialist and libero also won the CIF Citizenship Award and is a member of the honor roll. Churm is very active in her community with organizations such as the National Charity League, Human Options and Families Forward.
