AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State wide receiver Andy Kohler has a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and will miss the rest of this season, ISU head coach Dan McCarney announced Tuesday. Kohler suffered the injury during Saturday's game against Iowa. McCarney added that offensive lineman Bob Montgomery continues to make progress recovering from a broken left foot that forced him to miss the season's first three games.
"When this happens to someone like Andy, your heart goes out to them," McCarney said. "Andy will be back with us next season. Bob Montgomery continues to make progress and it will literally be a day-to-day process for him. The last thing you want to do is put someone back in the lineup before they are ready and suffer another injury that puts them out for an even longer period."
Kohler, an Ames native, has been a key special teams performer. The junior is also a high jumper on the Cyclone track team. As a prep, he was the third Iowa high school jumper to clear seven feet.
Montgomery, a team captain and first-team all-Big 12 pre-season selection at offensive guard, was a second-team all-conference choice last season by the league's writers and coaches.
Iowa State's next game is Sept. 27 at Northern Illinois.
