"I was very proud of the kids tonight," said head coach Linda Crum. "The kids set goals and one of the goals was to beat Iowa and we did. They played great and although they struggled in areas, they came back big when we needed them to. It was very exciting in here tonight and the crowd was great. The kids fed off the intensity and excitement of the crowd and that certainly helped us with the win. Rivalries like this are always a lot of fun."
In the evening's earlier match, Kentucky defeated Western Illinois, 3-1.
The Cyclones will take the floor for their second match of the Iowa State Cyclone Challenge, Saturday morning at 11 a.m., against Western Illinois and will face off against Kentucky at 4 p.m.
