AMES, Iowa - Iowa State assistant men's basketball coach Bob Sundvold has resigned from his position and will take over head coaching duties with the Kansas City Knights of the American Basketball Association, announced today by the Knights front office.
"This is an opportunity for myself and my family that I could not pass up," Sundvold said. "The Iowa State fans are the greatest in the world and it has been an unbelievable experience to be a part of the Cyclone family for the past three years. I also want to thank Wayne for allowing me to stay with ISU when he was assembling his staff."
Sundvold joined the Iowa State coaching staff in May of 2001 after coaching four seasons at UMKC. ISU made two NIT appearances in Sundvold's tenure with the Cyclones and as the coach working with ISU's post players, two Cyclone big men earned all-conference honors in Tyray Pearson (2002) and Jackson Vroman (2004).
"We wish Bob and his family the very best," ISU head coach Wayne Morgan said. "He was an important part of our success and he was offered an opportunity he had to take. We will continue to support Bob and watch his progress and he will always be apart of the ISU family."
