AMES, Iowa - Sophomore Nicole Lorenzen had a team-high six kills and junior Amanda Craig had 17 assists, but Nebraska's depth proved to be too much as the Cyclones fell to No. 4 Nebraska, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclones lost to the Huskers by game scores of 30-19, 30-16 and 30-20. With the loss, Iowa State falls to 8-13 overall and 1-12 in league play.
Nebraska dominated the match, hitting .170 while holding ISU to -.089, the lowest of the season for Iowa State. The Huskers had 38 kills to Iowa State's 24 and were able to dominate the match offensively.
In game one, ISU hung in there with a 16-14 lead midway through the game, but poor passing by the Cyclones kept them off balance as Nebraska took game one, 30-19. Sophomores Lorenzen and Katie Jessen and freshman Meghan Ferrie had two kills each.
ISU jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in game two behind kills by Ferrie and freshman Erin Boeve, but Nebraska's Melissa Elmer rattled off eight-straight points to lead the Huskers to a 30-16 win.
In game three, Nebraska jumped out to a 9-2 lead, but ISU played tough and closed Nebraska's lead to 16-13, but that's as close as ISU would get as the Husker's won game three, 30-20.
Senior Brittany Dalager had 13 digs and four assists, while sophomore Katie Churm had nine digs in the Cyclone effort. As a team, ISU had 53 digs and nine total blocks.
Iowa State stays at home next week when it plays host to Kansas State, Wednesday, Nov. 3. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Hilton Coliseum.
