DALLAS - Iowa State sophomore guard Curtis Stinson averaged 19.6 points and made the game-winning shot in ISU's win over No. 19 Virginia last week, helping him earn Big 12 Player of the Week honors today.
Stinson, a native of Bronx, N.Y., was instrumental in ISU's 81-79 win over No. 19 Virginia, scoring a season-high 30 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the floor. The guard made the game-winning shot, a 3-pointer with :14 seconds left that gave him a career-high five treys in the game. Stinson's 30-point effort was his second 30+ scoring game of his career, becoming just the 20th player in school history to score 30 or more points twice in a game. It was the highest point total for a Big 12 player this season.
Stinson ended the week with 14 points vs. Iowa and 15 points against Howard. He averaged 5.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists in ISU's three games.
Stinson is the second Cyclone to receive Big 12 Player of the Week honors this season. Jared Homan was recognized on Nov. 29.
