ISU Volleyball Wins Three Matches at First Spring Tournament

AMES, Iowa ? The Iowa State volleyball team opened its spring season at home over the weekend, hosting the 2004 Spring Jamboree Tournament with Northern Iowa, UMKC, Nebraska-Omaha, North Dakota State and Nebraska-Kearney. The Cyclones posted a 3-1 record in the tournament, the first of two the Cyclones will host this spring.

The Cyclones defeated Nebraska-Omaha in its first match, 2-1 (30-27, 27-30 and 15-12). They also defeated UMKC in two games (30-19 and 30-23) and instate rival, Northern Iowa in two games (30-22 and 30-27), before falling to Nebraska-Kearney in three games (30-27, 23-30 and 16-18).

According to head coach Linda Crum, the tournament was a great success for the Cyclones and it was a great way to showcase the talent ISU has coming back in the fall.

“We had a great weekend at our first spring tournament,” Crum said. “It really afforded us the opportunity to play some great competition and do some good things out on the court like passing the ball. I'm proud of the kids. They played very competitively and did some good things out on the court.”

The Cyclones will host their second tournament of the season, 2004 Spring Fling Tournament, on Saturday, April 17, starting at 8 a.m., in the Forker Building. The event is free and open to the public.

*Each team will play everyone in their pool and after pool play, the tournament will be reseeded and No. 1 will play No. 1, No.2 will play No. 2, No. 3 will play No. 3 and No. 4 will play No. 4.
