AMES, Iowa - Iowa State football special teams standout Ryan Baum will miss the rest of the 2005 season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee. He will have surgery on his knee next week.
Baum, a Gilbert native, was Iowa State's special teams player of the year last season. The wide receiver made 30 tackles over the last 17 games, all on special teams. Baum was a gunner on the Iowa State punt coverage team and averaged 11.8 yards on nine punt returns. He also played on the kickoff coverage and kickoff return units.
Baum was injured making a block on Iowa State's final kickoff return of the Oct. 8 Baylor game.
