AMES, Iowa - Iowa State freshman Kiel Uhl has led the Iowa State Cyclone cross country team at every meet this season and Saturday's NCAA Midwest Cross Country Regional Championship was no exception. Uhl's second-place finish among 150 competitors qualified him for an at large berth in the NCAA Cross Country Championships, Nov. 21 Terre Haute, Ind.
The true freshman finished the 10K course with a time of 30:55, just behind first-place finisher Antonio Vega of Minnesota, who finished the race in 30:52.
"I felt really relaxed," second-place finisher Kiel Uhl said. "I was just trying to put myself in position to go to nationals. I'm really confident and really stoked about making it to the next level, and I'm going to try to not think about it too much in the next few days."
"Kiel has improved from week to week throughout the season and I expect the same at nationals," ISU men's head coach Corey Ihmels said. "I'm excited to see what he can do at the highest level."
