Poor shooting halted any hopes for Iowa State to win its first exhibition game of the season, falling to EA Sports, 64-57 Saturday night in Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclones shot a dismal 27.4 percent from the field, including a 9-for-35 effort (25.7 percent) in the second half, as ISU dropped just its third exhibition game in school history.
"I thought we tried hard tonight, but we couldn't make a basket." ISU head coach Wayne Morgan said. "I thought our defense was good. We forced 25 turnovers, but it doesn't matter when you shoot it that poorly. I don't think we will have many nights when we shoot 27 percent. If that is what it takes for us to get it out of the way, then I am glad it is done."
The Cyclones got down early in the first half, trailing by as many as nine points (24-15) with 5:31 remaining. ISU then went on a 17-6 run to take a brief 32-30 lead, thanks to 13 points from Will Blalock during the run. Blalock led the Cyclones with 21 points in the game.
ISU could not get the lid off the basket in the second half, however, connecting on just one of its last 11 shots from the field, as EA Sports forged ahead for good after the game was deadlocked at 53-53. The Cyclones weren't any better from the foul line, hitting 52.2 percent from the charity stripe (52.2 percent).
Rahshon Clark and Curtis Stinson each had 11 points, but were a combined 8-for-30 from the floor. Clark led all players with 13 rebounds. Anthony Richardson led EA Sports with 14 points, followed by 11 points from Michael Joiner.
