AMES, Iowa (AP) - Curtis Stinson had 16 points, nine rebounds and six assists and Tasheed Carr added 13 points, leading Iowa State past Kansas State 57-42 Tuesday night for its sixth straight victory.
Iowa State (14-8, 6-5 Big 12) now has come full circle since losing six straight games in January. The Cyclones began their winning streak after a Jan. 26 loss at Kansas State.
Kansas State (13-9, 3-8) lost for the fifth straight time and was never in it. Once Iowa State went up 20-7 midway through the first half, the lead remained in double digits the rest of the way.
Lance Harris led Kansas State with 16 points, while Jeremiah Massey had 14 points and nine rebounds. But Fred Peete fell off sharply after two strong games last week.
Peete, who made 13 of 23 3-point shots in those games, went 0-for-6 from long range against Iowa State's 2-3 zone and shot 1-for-12 overall in finishing with two points.
The Cyclones didn't finish as strongly as they would have liked after taking a 38-19 halftime lead, especially with a game at No. 2 Kansas coming up Saturday. But the 42 points matched the fewest an Iowa State team has allowed in a Big 12 game and Kansas State didn't reach that figure until just .3 seconds remaining.
Iowa State was sharp early, finding enough openings in Kansas State's zone to make five of its first six shots and nine of its first 14. It was one of those stretches when it seemed like everything was going in.
Rahshon Clark looked to be long on a 3-point shot from the top of the key, but the ball banked in. Damion Staple's first shot was a line-drive jumper from 16 feet that he swished.
Later, Clark showed his versatility by stealing the ball and throwing down a thunderous one-handed dunk to make it 28-13. Carr's 3 from the top of the key gave Iowa State its 19-point halftime lead.
Any chance Kansas State had of getting back in it ended when the Wildcats made only one basket in the first 7:13 of the second half. No one other than Massey or Harris scored for the Wildcats in the second half until Justin Williams dunked with 1:04 left.
