AMES, Iowa - Iowa State senior Jared Homan has one more game before his collegiate career ends. The third-team all-Big 12 honoree has been invited to play in the NABC College All-Star game during the Final Four weekend (April 1) at the Savvis Center in St. Louis, Mo. Homan is among a select group of college stars who will play the Harlem Globetrotters in an exhibition game.
The Remsen, Iowa native will get a chance to polish his skills as he prepares for the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, a predraft camp for college seniors held April 6-9 at Portsmouth, Va. Former Cyclone Jackson Vroman used the Portsmouth Invitational to help propel his draft status last season. Vroman was the 31st pick in the 2004 NBA Draft.
"I'm really excited to play in the NABC All-Star game," Homan said. "It will be nice to play one more time before I leave for Portsmouth."
Homan raised eyebrows around the nation with his outstanding play late in the season. The center averaged 14.9 ppg and 11.6 rpg in his last nine games of the season. He capped off his collegiate career with a 19-point, 20-rebound performance against No. 2 North Carolina. Homan, who is ISU's career blocked shots leader, ranked first in the Big 12 in blocks (2.0 bpg), second in the league in rebounding (8.7 rpg) and second in double-doubles (12).
