AMES, Iowa - Iowa State I-back Jason Scales is one of 324 NCAA student-athletes nationwide selected to participate in the 2005 NCAA Leadership Conference, May 29-June 2 at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex and Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The NCAA Leadership Conference provides student-athletes with a forum to openly discuss issues that may affect them on their campuses and in their communities, while also providing them with the opportunity to enhance their leadership, communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills. Scales was among 1,166 student-athletes nominated by their respective schools for consideration, including Iowa State gymnast Kacey Oiness, Cyclone wrestler Travis Paulson and hurdler Rebecca Williams from the Cyclone track team.
"Jason was selected to the Dean's list during his first semester as an architecture major and the Big 12 Commissioner's honor roll after graduating from high school early," said ISU football coach Dan McCarney. "He has an uncanny knack for getting others around him to perform better and can excel in any situation using his leadership abilities."
The leadership conference also promotes better communication among student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty and communities. The five-day leadership conference consists of daily exercises and activities to help the student-athletes develop as individuals and as contributing members of a group.
