Iowa State's Ellis Hobbs and Tyson Smith Continue to the NFL

AMES, Iowa - Former Iowa State cornerback Ellis Hobbs was selected by the New England Patriots Saturday evening in the 2005 NFL Draft. Hobbs, a native of DeSoto, Texas, was picked in the third round, and was the 84th overall selection in the draft. Hobbs finished his ISU career with nine interceptions, including five as a senior -- the most by a Cyclone in one year since Barry Hill had nine interceptions in 1974.
Former Cyclone defensive end Tyson Smith, of Des Moines, signed a free agent contract Sunday with the Baltimore Ravens. Smith was a four-year starter at Iowa State after a stellar prep career at Dowling Catholic High School in West Des Moines. Smith finished his collegiate career with 225 tackles and 12 1/2 sacks.
