SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Iowa State volleyball team fell to Arkansas, 3-0 (22-30, 25-30, 24-30), in the Results Advertising Missouri State Classic on Saturday afternoon. Arkansas hit .252 as a team and blocked 12 Iowa State attacks to control the net.
"We knew coming down here that we would see three good teams," said head coach Christy Johnson. "We saw some glimpses of good things out of team but also some things that we need to work on for the Big 12 opener on Wednesday."
Iowa State (6-4) could not overcome a solid attack by the Lady Razorbacks in the first game, falling 30-22. Arkansas hit .417 in the first game while holding the Cyclones to just a .188 hitting percentage. Erin Boeve had seven kills in the first game to lead Iowa State.
Arkansas out hit Iowa State, .229 to .067, in the second game and was ahead from the beginning. Katie Kruenegel had two kills off the bench for the Cyclones in the game.
The Cyclones again struggled to get anything going in the fourth game, falling behind 12-7. ISU would rally to tie it at 16-16 but Arkansas used a run of its own to take the game, 30-24. Boeve led the Cyclones with 13 kills in the match. Amanda Craig had 27 assists and 10 digs to lead the Cyclones in both categories.
Kele Brewer and Denitza Koleve had 11 kills each to lead Arkansas.
The Cyclones will open Big 12 play on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Missouri.
