AMES, Iowa--Iowa State head men's basketball coach Greg McDermott announced today that Charles Boozer, a 6-3, 190-pound shooting guard from Raleigh, N.C., has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Iowa State starting in the Fall of 2007.
"We are excited to have Charles join our program," McDermott said. "Charles is a strong, athletic guard who can really shoot the ball. He plays the game with a high level of toughness and desire. He is a good student of the game having been around basketball his whole life. We like the fact that he excels in both the open court and half court. His size, strength and hunger allow for him to be an excellent defensive player."
Boozer will play his final season of high school basketball at Stoneridge Prep in Simi Valley, Calif., one of the nation's best prep basketball programs. Boozer was a three-year starter at Leesvile Road High School in Raleigh, recording over 1,720 points and making three state tournament appearances. Boozer averaged 15.2 ppg and 6.2 rpg last season.
Boozer is the younger brother of current NBA star Carlos Boozer, who is in his third season with the Utah Jazz. Carlos earned All-America honors at Duke, finishing his career as the school's all-time leader in field goal percentage.
Boozer is the fourth player to sign a letter of intent with Iowa State in the early signing period.
