Scouting Oklahoma
Oklahoma has been the surprise of the Big 12 this season, sitting in third place with just two conference matches remaining. The Sooners, who were picked to finish 10th in the preseason Big 12 poll, have won four straight, with their last loss coming on Nov. 4 to top-ranked Nebraska. Oklahoma's quick offense and efficient defense has created problems for OU opponents. The Sooners hit at a .260 clip and are averaging 3.13 block and 15.38 digs.
OU is led on the outside by Joanna Schmitt, who is averaging 4.30 kills and 3.05 digs. Eliane Santos averages a team-high 1.54 blocks and hits .321 on the attack.
All-Time Series
Oklahoma leads the all-time series 38-20, including 18-7 in Norman. The Cyclones have won three of the last five contests against the Sooners. ISU is 2-1 against OU under head coach Christy Johnson.
Oklahoma 3, Iowa State 0
Oklahoma had four players with double-figure kills and outhit Iowa State, .316 to .198, as the Cyclones fell to the Sooners, 3-0 (21-30, 29-31, 30-32), at Hilton Coliseum on Sept. 23. Katie Jessen and Nicole Lorenzen had 13 kills each for ISU. Oklahoma was paced by a career-high 15 kills from freshman Bridget Laplante and 12 kills from Santos.
Last Time Out
Katie Jessen led Iowa State with 12 kills but the Cyclones fell to No. 8 Texas, 3-0, on Saturday night in Austin. The Cyclones were unable to stop a daunting Texas attack, which blistered the ball for a .300 hitting percentage. Destinee Hooker and Jennifer Todd had 14 kills each for Texas, which outblocked the Cyclones, 10 to five. It marked just the seventh time in 28 matches in which the Cyclones have been outblocked.
Records Don't Last Forever, Some Not Even A Year
In 2005, Iowa State took the Big 12 by storm, winning a school-record nine conference matches. That broke the previous record of four, which was set in 2003. In less than a year, Iowa State has already re-written the record books with its 10th conference win of the season against Texas A&M and 11th against Texas Tech. The Cyclones hope to keep building on the record with two conference matches remaining.
The Better The Competition, The Better She Plays
Erin Boeve's season has been impressive, but her play in Big 12 matches has been even more impressive. The junior middle blocker is hitting .310 in conference matches, compared to an already solid .303 in all matches. She also averages 3.40 kills per game in the Big 12, up from 3.22 overall.
Senior Day
Iowa State will celebrate senior day on Saturday, Nov. 25, when it plays host to Colorado in the regular season finale. The Cyclones will honor their four seniors (Katie Churm, Katie Jessen, Jessica Klein and Nicole Lorenzen) in a pre-match ceremony.
