Big Promotions Planned For Nebraska Match

AMES, Iowa ? Riding the momentum of a school-record five-match Big 12 win streak, the Iowa State (17-7, 9-5 Big 12) volleyball team is hoping for a little "Hilton Magic" when it faces top-ranked Nebraska (22-0, 14-0 Big 12) in a key Big 12 showdown at Hilton Coliseum Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Breaking Down Barriers

The Cyclones have broken a number of streaks and achieved a number of firsts' this season.

- First win over Kansas State in Manhattan since 1995.

- First win over Colorado in Boulder since 1987.

- First win over Texas A&M since 1989.

- First win over Missouri since 1996.

- Erin Boeve became the first Cyclone to be named National Player of the Week.

"This is a big match for us and should be a fun night for our fans," said ISU head coach Christy Johnson. "We are hoping to get a lot of fans at the match. The school-record for a match is 4,228 and it would be awesome to have that many for this match. We had great support Saturday night. We had about 1,500 fans against Kansas, and I can't tell you how much of a difference it makes for our players to have so many fans in the stands. It puts a lot of pressure on our opponents and energizes our team."

The school-record was set against Nebraska on Oct. 7, 1995. The Cyclones' second largest crowd came earlier this season, when ISU topped intrastate rival Northern Iowa, 3-1, in front of 2,225 fans.

ISU faculty, students and staff will be admitted free with their ISU card. There will be a ?BEAT Nebraska' t-shirt toss, with one of the t-shirts containing an Apple Ipod, courtesy of Apple and the ISU Bookstore.

Fans can also bring their Diggin' Cyclone Volleyball card to enter the raffle for a chance to win a recliner, courtesy of Redeker's in Boone. Wednesday is also $1 popcorn night and fans can meet the team in a post-match autograph session.

The Cyclones defeated then-No. 21 Missouri last Wednesday on the road before disposing of Kansas Saturday night. Nebraska has led the Big 12 in blocks the last eight seasons,
but ISU is the current leader, averaging 3.40 blocks to the Huskers' 3.21 blocks.

"You'll see some great volleyball, No. 1 in the country against an emerging Iowa State team," said Johnson. "It should be a great match."

Tickets can also be purchased at the match. Cost is $5 for adults, $3 for youth and high school students.
