CHICAGO, Ill. - The Iowa State volleyball team won seven games, including four of six against 2005 NCAA Tournament qualifiers, on Saturday at the Chicago Spring Tournament at Palos Courts.
Iowa State opened play against Valparaiso and picked up a 2-0 (28-26, 25-18) sweep of the tournament qualifiers. The Cyclones then faced off against Northern Illinois, dropping a pair of games 20-25, 20-25 to fall to 2-2 on the day.
In the final match of the morning session, the Cyclones rebounded to defeat Purdue, 2-0 (25-21, 25-22). Purdue advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament last fall before falling to eventual national champion Washington.
The afternoon session saw Iowa State go 3-3, picking up wins against Illinois State (23-25, 25-21) and Illinois-Chicago (25-20, 25-18) but dropping a pair of games to Minnesota.
Iowa State will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Cedar Falls to take part in a round-robin. The Cyclones will face Northern Iowa, Navy, Nebraska-Kearney and North Dakota State.
