AMES, Iowa - Iowa State head men's basketball coach Greg McDermott announced today the signing of Wesley Johnson to a national letter of intent for the 2006-07 basketball season. Johnson (F, 6-7, 190, Fr., Corsicana, Texas), an athletic and versatile forward, will enroll at Iowa State in the Fall of 2006.
"Wesley is a long and athletic skilled forward who possesses great versatility," McDermott said. "We were impressed for his passion for the game of basketball and we feel he has unlimited potential."
Johnson will have four years of eligibility remaining after playing one year in prep school. The Corsicana, Texas native, who chose ISU over Charlotte and San Diego State, averaged 15.1 points, 9.7 rebounds and 4.3 blocks his final year at Corsicana H.S. Johnson was the 2004 Golden Circle Defensive Player of the Year and was a two-time first-team all-district pick.
Johnson is among four players who have signed letters of intent to play for Iowa State next season.
