AMES, Iowa - Iowa State middle linebacker Tim Dobbins was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the fifth round of Sunday's NFL Draft. Dobbins was the 151st pick overall.
Dobbins, the 2004 Big 12 Conference defensive newcomer of the year, was Iowa State's co-leader with 103 tackles last season. The Big 12 sportswriters named Dobbins a first-team all-Big 12 linebacker in 2005. He was a second-team choice by the league's coaches. He played in the 2004 Independence Bowl and the 2005 Houston Bowl.
Dobbins finished his two-year Iowa State career with 164 tackles, three career interceptions, 11 tackles for loss and a pair of sacks. The native of Nashville, Tenn. played junior college football at Copiah-Lincoln (Tenn.) Junior College.
