AMES, Iowa - Head coach Christy Johnson and the Iowa State volleyball team have announced the the addition of three student-athletes for the 2006 season.
Freshman Jamie Hagerman will join transfers Lauren Cummings and Jen Malcolm on next year's squad. The three additions join three freshman (Victoria Henson, Diane Kieger and Kaylee Manns) that inked letters of intent during the November signing period.
"We are very fortunate to have these three exceptional athletes joining our program," said head coach Christy Johnson."Lauren was able to train and compete for us this spring, and she has already proven to be one of the best athletes on the team. Jenna was one of the best middle blockers in the Big East and will bring a lot of experience with her when she joins us this fall. And Jamie is a terrific multisport athlete - she has a huge amount of potential and will become a great volleyball player over the next few years."
Hagerman (6-0, OH, Fr., New Virginia, Iowa) was named to the Des Moines Register's 2005 all-state second team after averaging 3.7 kills per game in her senior campaign at Interstate 35 High School in Truro, Iowa. Hagerman was also named Record-Herald & Tribune Warren County volleyball player of the year. She was an all-conference performer in the classroom as well as on the court, earning academic all-Pride of Iowa honors and first team distinction for her efforts on the court.
Hagerman played club ball for the Iowa Power Volleyball Alliance under the direction of Adam Cress and Carrie Manning. The team finished ninth after qualifying for nationals in 2005.
Cummings (6-0, RS/MB, Jr., Ankeny, Iowa) enrolled at Iowa State in the spring of 2006 and competed with the Cyclones during spring practice after a two-year stint at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Mo. Cummings was named Freshman of the Year in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association in 2004 after averaging 2.99 kpg and 1.18 bpg. She earned MIAA Co-Hitter of the Week honors once and was named MIAA honorable mention in her two years with the Bearcats.Cummings played her high school ball at Ankeny High School, earning all-state honors while leading her team to the state tournament her junior and senior year.
Malcolm (6-1, MB, Jr., Schaller, Iowa) comes to ISU after spending two seasons in the Big East at Syracuse University. She earned Big East all-tournament honors both years in addition to being named Big East freshman of the week twice during her freshman campaign in 2004.
Malcolm, who led Syracuse with 1.33 blocks per game, played high school ball at Schaller-Crestland and club for Nebraska Elite.
The Cyclones will open the 2006 season against Chicago State on August 25 at the Hawkeye Challenge in Iowa City.
