AMES, Iowa - Defensive end Shawn Moorehead led 30 Iowa State football student-athletes who were tabbed ISU Scholar-Athletes for maintaining at least a 3.0 grade-point average. The Cyclones were recognized at the athletic-department sponsored 2006 Scholar-Athlete Recognition Banquet April 24 in the Memorial Union.
Moorehead was named the team's All-Around Student-Athlete Achievement Award honoree. To be eligible for the award, Moorehead earned one of the top GPAs on the team, made significant athletic contributions, provided leadership and participated in community service activities.
Moorehead was a force in the defensive line for the Cyclones last season. The Mason City native made 34 tackles with six sacks and 10 tackles for loss last season. Moorehead is a mechanical engineering major. Starting free safety Steve Paris earned the Persistence Award. Starting offensive lineman Seth Zehr of Fort Dodge was recognized for having the team's highest GPA on the team the last two semesters.
