AMES, Iowa - A unique partnership between Variety, The Children's Charity of Iowa, and the Iowa State University Athletics Department could provide many less fortunate area children with tickets to Cyclone football this fall and help ISU reach its season ticket sales goal of 30,000.
The "Tickets for Kids" program takes 2006 Cyclone season football tickets purchased by fans and donates them to Variety. The tickets cost $150 each and are located in Section K. That organization will then distribute the tickets to children, who would not otherwise have the opportunity to attend Cyclone football games.
"We are very grateful to Variety for making dreams come true for young people in our state," Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard said. "Representatives from Variety met with our staff recently to create a program which could use ISU Athletics to benefit the work of this magnificent charity. I'm very confident the Cyclone fan base will answer the call and help expose our football team to some new fans, who probably wouldn't normally get a chance to attend a game in Jack Trice Stadium."
Pollard said the partnership is a winning proposition for Variety, area children and the Cyclones.
"Our department, as a member of the central Iowa community, has a strong desire to give back," Pollard said. "This program provides needy kids some wonderful entertainment, creates needed exposure for the fine work of Variety and will help us grow our season ticket fan base in a unique way."
Cyclones fans want to help, Pollard believes, but some already have tickets or, perhaps, live outside of our region.
"The `Tickets for Kids' program is a vehicle for anyone to join the cause and support others," Pollard said.
