AMES. Iowa - Iowa State head coach Dan McCarney and the Iowa State football program have received addtional preseason recognition from preseason magazines. ISU is Lindy's pick as the No. 2 team in the Big 12 North behind Nebraska this season. The Cyclones have three players on the preseason All-Big 12 first-team and three more on the second unit. Quarterback Bret Meyer, wide receiver Todd Blythe and defensive lineman Brent Curvey are all first-team picks while offensive linemen Aaron Brant and Scott Stephenson and all-purpose cornerback and kick returner DeAndre Jackson are all second-team picks.
As a part of Lindy's 20th anniversary, the magazine celebrates the achievement of current Big 12 teams over the last two decades. Lindy's has picked an all-Big 12 team of the past 20 years which has former running back and two-time Heisman Trophy finalist Troy Davis on the second team. Davis is ranked among the top six players over the past two decades and McCarney is listed among the 10 most unforgettable coaches of the past 20 years. The other coaches in the top 10 were Tom Osborne (Nebraska 1973-97), Bill Snyder (Kansas State, 1989-2005), Barry Switzer (Oklahoma, 1973-88), Bill McCartney (Colorado, 1982-94), Bob Stoops (Oklahoma 1999-present), Mack Brown (Texas, 1998-present), R.C. Slocum (Texas A&M, 1989-2002), Spike Dykes (Texas Tech, 1987-99) and Grant Teaff (Baylor, 1972-92).
Iowa State's 19-10 upset of Nebraska in 1992 is listed as one of the most unforgettable games.
