Coach McCarney touched on the offense, defense, and newcomers?after Friday morning's practice.
?
On the offensive line:
"I'm anxious to see (how the offensive line stacks up). We have 13 days to kickoff and you are measured on game day. I think it's a real good group of kids. There is more competition and more depth than at any time since I've been at
On Rashawn Parker and Josh Johnson:
"I'm real proud of him. He and Josh Johnson are both 18-year old freshmen from
"I'm real proud of the leadership of the team and the work ethic and the attitude. I think the newcomers have really fit in well. We got Ahtyba Rubin today. He just got qualified, so he will join us. He is a 315-pound defensive lineman. He will probably start practice on Monday. He has to get his physical and all those things done. It's good to see him. I think this team has followed the plan I laid out for them for camp. We've gotten a lot done, but there is a lot to be done yet. The team will elect captains tonight and I think there is a real good pool of captain candidates."
On the secondary:
"There's no doubt (Chris) Singleton and DeAndre Jackson are the starters at corner. There is no doubt about that. And then we are still rotating Jon Banks, Caleb Berg and all those other guys at safety right now. We are taking a look at Jason Harris at SAM linebacker. (Ryan) Baum is definitely working at safety and Brandon Hunley is still working at safety. So there is good rotation back there, but Banks and Berg right now probably have a little bit of an edge going into tomorrow's scrimmage, but this is a real important evaluation. There is really only one job in the offense that we are still unsure of who the starter is, and that is the right guard. On defense there is still a number of positions we need to figure out in the next few days who our starting 11 are going to be."

"Experience is always a big thing. Anytime you get out on the field and learn from that it is always big. I think the other linebackers we will have this year will do fine. We have Tyrone McKenzie who played as a true freshman at
"We are all tall, lanky, real athletic guys, I think. We fly to the ball, but we aren't afraid to hit you as well. I think you are going to see that from our defense this year, especially our linebackers.
"Tomorrow we have a big scrimmage and then after the scrimmage all our focus will turn to
