Boeve Named Preseason All-Big 12; Cyclones Picked to Finish Eighth

Dallas - Junior Erin Boeve became the first Iowa State volleyball player to earn preseason all-Big 12 Conference honors and ISU was picked to finish eighth in a
vote of the league's head coaches, the conference announced Wednesday.

Iowa State, which won a school record nine Big 12 matches last season en route to a 16-15 overall record, was tabbed eighth in the preseason coaches poll after finishing in a tie for sixth place a year ago. The Cyclones return five starters from last year's squad. Senior libero Katie Churm, who led the conference with 4.35 digs per game last season, returns along with fellow seniors and starters Katie Jessen, Nicole Lorenzen, and Jessica Klein.
Boeve, who captured all-Big 12 honorable mention honors a year ago, is one of the top middle blockers in the league. Her 1.61 blocks per game was second in the conference and she shattered the ISU school record with 155 block assists. The Steen, Minn. native also averaged 3.19 kills and hit a career-high .244 for the Cyclones.
Iowa State, which opens preseason practice on Tuesday, will open its season against Chicago State on Aug. 25 in the Hawkeye Challenge in Iowa City. The first home match will be against intrastate rival Northern Iowa on Wednesday, August 30, at 6:30 p.m.
