Volleyball Announces Spring Schedule

Matches against NCAA Championship qualifiers Minnesota, Northern Iowa and Wisconsin and a tournament at the University of Tampa, the 2006 Division II National Champions, highlight the 2007 Iowa State spring volleyball schedule, released by head coach Christy Johnson Monday.
The Cyclones return just three starters, including AVCA All-American honorable mention middle blocker Erin Boeve, from last year's record-breaking campaign. Boeve, who earned first team all-Big 12 honors and was named the league's Co-Defensive Player of the Year, is one of the most prolific blockers in school history. The rising senior holds the school record with 367 career blocks. Also returning for ISU are starters Lauren Cummings and Kaylee Manns.
Cummings, a senior from Ankeny, Iowa, was one of the biggest surprises in the Big 12 a year ago, hitting a team-high .317 after being plugged into the starting lineup in the seventh match of the season. Manns, who started at setter as a freshman, set a new school record with 1,433 assists in a season.
The Cyclones will open the spring schedule with a training trip in Tampa, Fla., over spring break. On March 17, ISU will close the training session with a tournament at the University of Tampa, which won the Division II National Championship last season.
The following weekend, ISU will host Creighton, Wisconsin and UMKC at the Forker Gym on March 24. The Cyclones defeated UMKC, 3-0, last season and lost to Wisconsin in the second round of the NCAA Championships.
Iowa State will also travel to Minneapolis, Minn., for a tournament at the University of Minnesota on April 7. Teams for the tournament have not yet been announced.
The Cyclones will close out the spring slate with another home tournament at Forker. ISU will play host to Minnesota, Northern Iowa and South Dakota State in the April 14 tournament.
