"We just weren't able to get anything going in the second half and Harris is a guy that, if he gets an open shot he usually makes it," said ISU head coach Greg McDermott. "To his credit he knocked down the shots when he was open and we were never really able to recover from that."
Harris led the Cowboys (18-3, 4-2 Big 12), shooting 7-of-9 from the field, including 3-of-4 from 3-point land. As a team, OSU shot 45.8 percent from the field to win, despite being outrebounded by the Cyclones, 39-32.
Mike Taylor paced the Cyclones, who shot just 32.2 percent for the game, with 13 points, his 10th straight game with at least 10 points. Dodie Dunson had 11 points off the bench and Wesley Johnson chipped in nine points and 10 boards in the game.
The Cyclones (11-9, 2-4), who scored 10 second chance points in the first eight minutes of the game, used a 9-0 run to open up a 13-4 lead with under 12 minutes remaining in the first half. Despite seven points from Dunson off the bench, the Cowboys were able to battle back with a 13-5 run of their own over the next nine minutes. The OSU run, much of which occurred with Taylor and Jiri Hubalek on the bench in foul trouble, closed the gap to 18-17 in favor of ISU.
"When Mike and Jiri got into foul trouble, we really tried to slow the game down," said McDermott. "We were able to do that and go into the break with a lead."
The Cowboys stormed out of the gates in the second half, using a 12-0 run to propel them to a 29-23 lead just five minutes into the period. After
