- The Cyclones dropped a 3-0 (31-33, 19-30, 20-30) decision to top-ranked Nebraska on Wednesday night. The Cyclones are the first team to force Nebraska, who has lost just one game this season, to win in extra points.
- Lauren Cummings led ISU with 12 kills and a .375 hitting percentage against NU.
- Iowa State is 10-3 in its last 13 matches following a 1-4 start to the season. The only losses in the stretch came at the hands of No. 1, Nebraska, No. 7 Texas and Oklahoma.
- The Cyclones out dug Nebraska, 54-51, on Wednesday and Oklahoma 101-69 last Saturday. It marked the second time in four matches that ISU has posted 100 or more digs. The Cyclones are 10-3 when having more digs than their opponents.
- Kaylee Manns has 30 kills with no errors on 55 attempts in the last six matches for a .545 hitting percentage.
- As a team, ISU is averaging 19.07 digs in Big 12 matches, which ranks first in the league. Nebraska is second with 16.00 digs.
- Ashley Mass (5.05), Laura Cady (3.15), Amy Vos (3.30) and Kaylee Manns (3.30) are all averaging over 3.00 digs per game during the last five matches.
- Iowa State is 8-1 when winning the important first game this season, with the only loss coming last Saturday at Oklahoma. Comparatively, the Cyclones are just 3-6 when dropping the first frame.
- Mass is averaging 4.95 digs per game since moving into the starting libero role 12 matches ago. The freshman from Muskego, Wis., is second in the Big 12 with 5.00 per game in conference matches.
- Jen Malcom hit .636 (14k-0e-22a) against Kansas. It marks the second best hitting percentage in the conference this season in league matches.
- ISU ranks 27th in the nation in attendance, averaging 1,114 fans per home match.
A Closer Look At Kansas State (13-5, 5-3 Big 12)
- Kansas State is in the midst of a season-long two match losing streak, having lost matches to top-ranked Nebraska and No. 7 Texas.
- The Wildcats dropped a heartbreaker to the Longhorns last Saturday, falling 3-2 (26-30, 30-25, 27-30, 30-22, 9-15) before enjoying their conference bye on Wednesday.
- Against the Horns, preseason Big 12 Player of the Year Natalya Korobkova had 23 kills and 10 digs to lead the Wildcats. Rita Liliom chipped in 14 kills in the losing effort.
- Individually, Megan Farr (.369) ranks fifth in the league in hitting percentage while Korobkova's 4.27 kills ranks fifth as well. Farr is second in the conference in blocks, averaging 1.48, while teammate Kelsey Chipman is just behind Farr in third with 1.44 blocks.
- The Wildcats lead the league in service aces by a landslide. K-State's 2.20 aces per game ranks well ahead of Nebraska's 1.76 aces per game. In league matches only, K-State is even better with 2.26 per game.
- In Big 12 matches only, Chipman leads the conference with 1.52 blocks per game for Kansas State, which ranks fourth in the league as a team (2.95).
- Iowa State leads the all-time series 36-22, including 14-12 in Ames.
Last Time They Met (10/25/06)
Iowa State took a 3-1 (30-28, 30-25, 20-30, 30-25) win at Hilton Coliseum to earn a season sweep of Kansas State for the first time since 1995.
Katie Jessen (15 kills), Lauren Cummings (14 kills) and Erin Boeve (12 kills) paced the Cyclones offensively. Kaylee Manns had 48 assists and 17 digs for Iowa State, which out dug the Wildcats, 72-59.
Stat of the Week
Iowa State is undefeated (3-0) in home Big 12 contests this season, picking up wins over Texas A&M, Missouri and Kansas in the friendly confines of Hilton Coliseum.
Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week
- Freshman libero Ashley Mass became the first Cyclone in school history to earn Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 17) honors after averaging 5.50 digs per game in wins over Baylor and Texas A&M. The Muskego, Wis., native had 17 digs and three service aces against the Bears and ended the week with 16 digs in a ISU's first-ever sweep of the Aggies.
Can You Dig It?
- The Cyclones have shattered a pair of school-record for digs in a single match since the inception of the rally scoring era this season. With 83 against Northern Iowa, ISU broke the previous 3-game record of 76 which was set against Creighton in 2005. The Cyclones then broke the 5-game record with 102 against Missouri, topping the old record which was 95 in the regular season finale against Colorado last season.
