ISU Heads To Oklahoma For Key Big 12 Match

AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State volleyball team takes to the road this weekend as it travels to Norman, Okla., for an important Big 12 match against Oklahoma. The Cyclones and Sooners join Texas in a tie for second place in the Big 12 with a 5-1 league mark. First serve for Saturday's match is slated for 7 p.m.

A Closer Look At Oklahoma (13-3, 5-1 Big 12)
- Oklahoma, the surprise of the Big 12 a year ago, enters Saturday's match having won eight of its last 10.
- The Sooners fought off TCU, 3-2 (29-31, 30-25, 18-30, 30-27, 17-15), on Wednesday evening in Fort Worth, Texas. It was the fifth five-game match of the season for OU, which is 4-1 when going the distance.
- Against the Horned Frogs, OU hit .231 and used a 24-kill performance from Sarah Weiland to improve to 8-2 in non-conference action. Weiland also had a match-high 20 digs in the contest. Setter Julie Chester had 70 assists and 11 digs and Mariana Blum was the third Sooner to post a double-double with 18 kills and 10 digs.
- Individually, senior outside hitter Mariana Blum leads the team with 3.76 kills per game. Weiland is the teams' most efficient hitter, connecting at a .313 clip while racking up 3.08 kills. Libero Hannah Sharp ranks among the Big 12's best, averaging a team-high 4.16 digs.
- Oklahoma leads the all-time series 39-20, including 19-7 in Norman.
Stat of the Week
Setter Kaylee Manns is hitting .605 in the last five matches. Manns, a sophomore, has 23 kills and no errors on 38 attempts while dishing out 13.61 assists during the stretch.
Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week
- Freshman libero Ashley Mass became the first Cyclone in school history to earn Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 17) honors after averaging 5.50 digs per game in wins over Baylor and Texas A&M. The Muskego, Wis., native had 17 digs and three service aces against the Bears and ended the week with 16 digs in a ISU's first-ever sweep of the Aggies.
Can You Dig It?
- The Cyclones have shattered a pair of school-record for digs in a single match since the inception of the rally scoring era this season. With 83 against Northern Iowa, ISU broke the previous 3-game record of 76 which was set against Creighton in 2005. The Cyclones then broke the 5-game record with 102 against Missouri, topping the old record which was 95 in the regular season finale against Colorado last season.
