Cyclone Notebook
- Iowa State (2-1) returns home to play host to Minnesota (1-0) on Tuesday in the first of an important two-game home stretch for the Cyclones...ISU will have a week off before playing host to Northern Iowa on Nov. 27.
- Minnesota is the first of three Big Ten opponents ISU will face this season...the Cyclones host Iowa (Dec. 8) and will battle Purdue in Las Vegas (Dec. 22)...ISU was 1-2 vs. Big Ten opponents a year ago...ISU is 46-92 all-time vs. Big Ten opponents.
- ISU head coach Greg McDermott is 4-5 all-time vs. Big Ten opponents (Minnesota, 1-0; Iowa 3-3; Wisconsin, 0-1; Ohio State, 0-1).
- The Cyclones are aiming to capture the 400th win in Hilton Coliseum on Tuesday...ISU holds a 399-137 (74.4 pct.) all-time record in its 37th season in the facility.
- ISU has not been at full strength the whole season with its top three players (Rahshon Clark, Jiri Hubalek and Wesley Johnson) missing time with various injuries.
- Hubalek missed both exhibition games with a broken foot but returned for the Cyclone Challenge...Clark sat out the second exhibition game (EA Sports) with a sore knee...Johnson suffered a bone bruise in his left foot on Nov. 7 and has missed all three games this season...his status is doubtful for the Minnesota game.
Last Time Out
- Iowa State lost its in its first road appearance of the season on Wednesday, falling at Bradley, 65-56...ISU played without its top player, Wesley Johnson, for the third-straight game...Johnson is nursing a bone bruise in his foot.
- A late 14-7 first-half run by the Cyclones gave ISU the lead at the break, 31-30...ISU has led at the half in all three games this season...however, Bradley opened the second half with nine-straight points to regain a lead it never relinquished.
- ISU cut the lead down to two points on a Jiri Hubalek putback with less than 10 minutes remaining, but Bradley continued to come up with big shots to answer the Cyclones.
- The Cyclones were led by Rahshon Clark and Diante Garrett, who both chipped in with 13 points...Clark was 5-of-6 from the field and made a trio of 3-pointers...Garrett came off the bench and nailed a career high in points (13) and steals (3)...Garrett went 5-of-9 from the field.
- Bryan Petersen added 12 points for the Cyclones, drilling four 3-pointers...Petersen is 8-of-14 from 3-point range in his last two games (57.1 percent).
- Hubalek finished with eight points and a team-high six boards.
- Clayton Vette tallied three points and five boards off the bench for Iowa State.
- The Cyclones continued to struggle to take care of the ball, committing 18 turnovers, registering 11 in the first half.

- ISU men's basketball athletic trainer Vic Miller received his master's degree from Minnesota in 1995 and was the trainer for the Minnesota wrestling team.

- Guard Lawrence McKenzie, another local product from Minneapolis, is one of the top returning scorers in the Big Ten...McKenzie, who earned honorable mention all-Big Ten honors in 2006-07, averaged 14.9 points and hit 78 treys last season.
- Senior Spencer Tollackson at 6-9, 260 pounds is a force underneath...Tollackson averaged 12.0 points and 5.3 rebounds last season...he had 24 points and 13 boards vs. ISU last season.
- First-year coach Tubby Smith has a 388-145 all-time record as a head coach...he has never faced an ISU team or a Greg McDermott-coached team.

NBA Heritage
- Iowa State has a number of players on its roster with ties to the NBA.
- Freshman Charles Boozer and junior Sean Haluska have brothers who are on current NBA rosters. Boozer's brother, Carlos, is one of the top post players in the NBA, making the 2006-07 All-Star team. Boozer averaged 20.9 points and 11.7 rebounds in 2006-07, leading the Utah Jazz to the Western Conference Finals. He is also a member of the USA Basketball Select team that will compete for a Gold medal at the 2008 Olympics Beijing.
- Haluska's brother, Adam, who played one year at Iowa State (2002-03) before transferring to Iowa, is a rookie with the New Orleans Hornets. Haluska led the Big Ten in scoring last year, averaging 20.5 ppg while earning first-team all-Big Ten honors.
- Freshman Diante Garrett also has outstanding basketball roots. His father, Dick, played five seasons in the NBA for the Los Angeles Lakers, Buffalo Braves, New York Knicks and Milwaukee Bucks, averaging 10.3 ppg. Garrett played in the 1970 NBA Finals for the Lakers against the Knicks.

- ISU as yet to play a game this season, including exhibitions, at full strength...ISU's top three players- Rahshon Clark, Jiri Hubalek and Wesley Johnson- have missed at least one of the five games this season...Clark sat out the second exhibition game (EA Sports) with a sore knee...Hubalek missed both exhibition games with a broken foot and is slowly getting back into playing shape...Johnson is the most recent Cyclone to go down...Johnson has not played in the first three regular-season games after suffering a bone bruise on his foot...his status for the Minnesota game is doubtful...the trio combined for 30.0 points and 20.6 rebounds last season.
- Another setback for the Cyclones was when freshman Lucca Staiger was declared ineligible for the season by the NCAA Amateur Certifaction process...Staiger was expected to play major minutes at the two-guard spot...ISU is appealing the decision.

- Senior Rahshon Clark is in his fourth season as a starter for the Cyclones and is no question one of the team leaders...Clark has started 81 games and 35 consecutive games at forward.
- Clark is the only four-year player left on the Cyclone roster and stuck with Coach McDermott when most of his teammates left after former coach Wayne Morgan was relieved of his duties.
- Clark is one of the most athletic and dynamic players in the league...possessing a 39-inch vertical step jump, Clark's high-flying dunks have excited the Hilton crowd since 2004-05...Clark has 59 career dunks.
- Clark has jumped out to a fantastic start to 2007-08, averaging 9.7 points and 5.0 rebounds...he is shooting 65.0 percent from the floor (13-20 FG).
- Clark is closing in on an unique mark in Cyclone history...he needs 13 steals to become the first player in school history to rank in the career top-10 in steals (14th-122), blocks (8th-78) and 3-pointers (10th-83).
Freshman Starters In Season Openers
- Heralded rookie sensation Craig Brackins, a 6-10 freshman from Palmdale, Calif., got the starting nod against Winston-Salem State in the season-opener...it marked the sixth season in a row where the Cyclones inserted a freshman into the starting lineup in the season-opener...Brackins responded with a double-double, the first Cyclone freshman to record double-digits in both points and rebounds in their first game.
Iowa State Team Quick Facts
- Iowa State is celebrating 100 years of men's hoops this season...ISU announced a 15-player All-Century team in the summer and will play host to a centennial celebration on Feb. 15-16, inviting back all former letterwinners and coaches for a two-day celebration.
- ISU returns just one player in the backcourt that played over 100 minutes last season (walk-on Brock Jacobson played 154 minutes in 2006-07).
- ISU has 10 new members on its roster this season.
