Cyclone Notebook
-Iowa State (2-2) faces intrastate rival Northern Iowa (4-1) in Hilton Coliseum on Tuesday...ISU will try and end its four-game losing streak to Missouri Valley Conference teams...the Cyclones lost to UNI, Drake and Bradley last season and fell at Bradley in their first road game of this season on Nov. 14.
-UNI is the second of a potential four Missouri Valley schools ISU will face this season...ISU has already played Bradley (L, 56-65) and will travel to Drake on Dec. 5...the Cyclones could battle Missouri State (Dec. 23) in the Las Vegas Tournament.
-The UNI game will mark the third time that ISU head coach Greg McDermott will play against one of his former teams...McDermott, who coached at UNI from 2002-06, lost to UNI (70-57) and defeated North Dakota State (67-54) last season.
-The Cyclones are aiming to capture the 400th win in Hilton Coliseum on Tuesday...ISU holds a 399-138 (74.3 pct.) all-time record in its 37th season in the facility.
-ISU has not been at full strength the whole season with its top three players (Rahshon Clark, Jiri Hubalek and Wesley Johnson) missing time with various injuries.
-ISU's top returning scorer from a year ago Wesley Johnson has yet to play a game this season...he has been sidelined with a bone bruise in his foot and will likely see his first action against UNI.
Last Time Out
-Iowa State dropped it second consecutive game with a 68-58 loss to Minnesota last Tuesday.
-After being down for the first time at the half this season (32-28), ISU opened the second half on a 13-3 run to take a six-point lead with 15:24 left in the game...but UM's Lawrence McKenzie made four treys in the final 14 minutes to propel the Gophers to victory.
-ISU was led by true freshman Craig Brackins, who scored 17 of his career-high 23 points in the first half...Brackins' 23-point output ties for the 16th-best scoring effort by a freshman in school history.
-Brackins was 11-of-16 (68.8 pct.) from the field against UM...he is shooting 55.8 percent (24-43 FG) from the field on the season.
-Senior Rahshon Clark tallied 13 points, his third double-digit scoring effort of the season...Clark tallied two steals to give him 124 for his career, ranking 13th all-time on ISU's career steal list.
-ISU continued to struggle from the outside, making just 4-of-20 shots from downtown...Bryan Petersen tallied two of ISU's four treys...he is 10-of-19 from 3-point range (52.6 pct.) in the last three games.
-Jiri Hubalek tallied six points and grabbed a team-high 11 boards...Hubalek notched his eighth double-digit rebounding effort of his career and he leads the team on the boards at 9.0 rpg.
-ISU committed a season-low 13 turnovers and had a positive/turnover ratio for the first time this season (15 asst/13 to), but shot a season-low 40.0 pct. from the floor.
-ISU also lost the battle of the boards for the second time this season (41-34), allowing 17 offensive rebounds by the Gophers.
-The Cyclones were outscored by Minnesota's bench, 30-1.
-Diante Garrett tallied nine points and dished out a career-high four dimes.
Cyclone-Panther Quick Facts
-Iowa State leads the all-time series against UNI at 34-8 and has a 24-2 lead in games played in Ames...ISU has won four-straight games in Ames in the series...its last loss in Ames was a 54-48 setback on Nov. 23, 1997.
-UNI has won two of the last three games in the series, including last season's 70-57 Panther victory in Greg McDermott's homecoming in Cedar Falls.

-UNI director of basketball operations Rich Glas gave McDermott his first coaching job as an assistant at North Dakota in 1989...the pair coached five seasons together at North Dakota, compiling an 126-37 record and earning five NCAA Division II Tournament berths.
-UNI's three assistant coaches Kyle Green, P.J. Hogan and Chris Foster all coached with or played under McDermott at UNI...Foster scored 1,027 points in his career at UNI from 2002-05.
A Closer Look At Northern Iowa (4-1)
-Northern Iowa comes to Hilton Coliseum with a 4-1 mark...the Panthers already have one road win (Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 73-66)...UNI suffered its first loss on Friday, falling 61-55 at South Dakota State...UNI was led by Jordan Eglseder, who tallied 18 points and grabbed 14 boards.
-The Panthers are led by senior four-year starting forward Eric Coleman...Coleman is averaging 11.8 points and 8.4 rebounds this season...the 2007 second-team all-Missouri Valley selection ranks 14th on UNI's all-time scoring chart (1,187 points) and seventh in career rebounding (758)...Coleman has made 61.8 percent of his shots (21-34 FG) from the floor this season.
-Senior Jared Josten, a 5-11 guard from Webster City, Iowa, has had a fast start to the 2007-08 season...Josten, who had 16 points in the UW-Milwaukee win, is averaging 13.2 points and is shooting an impressive 60 percent from 3-point range.
-Eglseder, a 7-1, 265-pound sophomore from Bellevue, Iowa, is averaging 13.4 points and 9.4 boards...Eglseder has double-doubles in his last two games.
-Sophomore Adam Koch is averaging 8.4 points and 8.6 rebounds...Koch had a career-high 13 rebounds in the Northern Illinois win.
-As a team, the Panthers are shooting 38.7 percent from 3-point range and holding a +10.4 rebounding margin over their opponents.
Not At Full Strength
-ISU as yet to play a game this season, including exhibitions, at full strength...ISU's top three players- Rahshon Clark, Jiri Hubalek and Wesley Johnson- have missed at least one of the six games this season...Clark sat out the second exhibition game (EA Sports) with a sore knee...Hubalek missed both exhibition games with a broken foot and is slowly getting back into playing shape...Johnson is the most recent Cyclone to go down...Johnson has not played in the first four regular-season games after suffering a bone bruise on his foot...he will likely see his first action of the season vs. UNI on Tuesday...the trio combined for 30.0 points and 20.6 rebounds last season.
-Another setback for the Cyclones was when freshman Lucca Staiger was declared ineligible for the season by the NCAA Amateur Certification process...Staiger was expected to play major minutes at the two-guard spot...ISU is appealing the decision.
70 Is The Magic Number
-Keeping the opposition from getting into a high-scoring game increases ISU's chances of winning...in the McDermott era, ISU is 16-8 when it opponents score under 70 points...ISU has given up 70 points 11 times to its opponents since McDermott took over, going 1-10.
-ISU has not allowed an opponent to score over 70 points this season, averaging 58.5 ppg in scoring defense.
Looking For No. 400
-ISU recorded its 399th win in Hilton Coliseum against Centenary on Nov. 10...the Cyclones will get their second chance at 400 wins against UNI on Nov. 27.
Clark Finishing Up Outstanding Career
-Senior Rahshon Clark is in his fourth season as a starter for the Cyclones and is no question one of the team leaders...Clark has started 82 games and 36 consecutive games at forward.
-Clark is the only four-year player left on the Cyclone roster and stuck with Coach McDermott when most of his teammates left after former coach Wayne Morgan was relieved of his duties.
-Clark is one of the most athletic and dynamic players in the league...possessing a 39-inch vertical step jump, Clark's high-flying dunks have excited the Hilton crowd since 2004-05...Clark has 59 career dunks.
-Clark has jumped out to a fantastic start to 2007-08, averaging 10.5 points and 4.8 rebounds...he is shooting 60.7 percent from the floor (17-28 FG).
-Clark is closing in on an unique mark in Cyclone history...he needs 10 steals to become the first player in school history to rank in the career top-10 in steals (13th-124), blocks (8th-79) and 3-pointers (10th-84).
Brackins Making Solid Debut
-Heralded rookie sensation Craig Brackins, a 6-10 freshman from Palmdale, Calif., has been impressive in his inaugural season...Brackins, who has started every game so far, was outstanding in his first career game, recording a double-double vs. Winston-Salem State, the first Cyclone freshman to record double-digits in both points (13) and rebounds (10) in their first game.
-Brackins currently leads the team in scoring at 14.8 ppg...he is trying to become just the fourth player in ISU history to lead the squad in scoring in their rookie campaign: Ray Wehde (7.8, 1942-43), Marcus Fizer (14.9, 1997-98), Curtis Stinson (16.2, 2003-04).
-Brackins has scored in double figures in three of four games this season...he posted a career-high 23 points vs. Minnesota, tying for the 16th-best scoring output by a freshman in school history...Brackins had 17 of his 23 points in the first half vs. the Gophers.
-Brackins is shooting 55.8 percent (24-43 FG) from the field and is trying to become just the third rookie in school history to start every game of their freshman season: Ron Harris (27-27, 1980-81) and Adam Haluska (31-31, 2002-03).

-Iowa State is celebrating 100 years of men's hoops this season...ISU announced a 15-player All-Century team in the summer and will play host to a centennial celebration on Feb. 15-16, inviting back all former letterwinners and coaches for a two-day celebration.
