IRVING, Texas--Four Iowa State men's basketball players were named to the 2007 Big 12 Academic All-Big 12 Men's Basketball Team, announced today by the Big 12 office.
Sophomore Ross Marsden, a native of Ames, Iowa, and Jeff Bergstrom, a senior from Kingwood, Texas, earned first-team honors, while Chris Ceaser (senior, Humble, Texas) and Jiri Hubalek (junior, Prague, Czech Republic) were named to the second team.
Recipients of the first-team must have a 3.20 GPA or higher and play in 60 percent of their team's contests. Second team members must have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA and play in 60 percent of the games. Senior members of each team that have met the GPA requirements but have not played in 60 percent of the games are also eligible.
Marsden and Bergstrom are the first Cyclones to make first-team academic all-Big 12 since Jake Sullivan and Justin Fries did it in 2004. Marsden has started seven games this season, averaging 1.1 points and 1.4 rebounds. Bergstrom is in his fourth season with the Cyclones, appearing in 23 career games.
