AMES, Iowa ? Iowa State sophomore center Ross Marsden has elected to forgo his final two years of eligibility and concentrate on his academic goals at ISU, Cyclone head men's basketball coach Greg McDermott announced today. Marsden's immediate plans are to stay at Iowa State and finish his course work toward a bachelor's degree in accounting.
"We appreciate Ross' contributions to the Cyclone basketball program the last two years," McDermott said. "Although we are disappointed he won't be a part of our team next year, we respect his decision and wish him nothing but the best in the future."
Marsden, a native of Ames, Iowa, started seven games for the Cyclones in 2006-07, averaging 1.3 points and 1.6 rebounds. A 2007 first-team academic all-Big 12 selection, Marsden was a career 56.8 percent shooter (46-81 FG) in his two years at Iowa State.
"I have lost the passion for the game to compete at this level," Marsden said. "It would be unfair to my teammates to continue to play if I was unable to give it my all. The coaches, my teammates and the community were all great to me. It is just a decision I had to make for myself and the team."
