IRVING, Texas ? The Iowa State men's golf team added three student-athletes to the 2007 Academic All-Big 12 first team the league office announced Tuesday. Senior Rodney Hamblin and juniors Chris Baker and Johnny Larson were honored, the trio now having combined for seven first-team selections.
Hamblin earned his third consecutive first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection, becoming the first Cyclone to achieve that feat since 2003 graduate Jeremy Lyons. Aaron Patton and Kevin Oswald garnered first-team recognition four times. Hamblin, a St. Paul, Minn., native, is majoring in sports management.
Baker and Larson earned their second straight first-team selection. Baker, a Brownsville, Ind., native, is pursuing his degree in business. Larson, who has saw action in six events this year, is majoring in communications studies.
First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
The Big 12 Men's Golf Championship will be contested on April 23-24 at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan., for the eighth time in conference history.
