AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State defensive end Shawn Moorehead of Mason City and wide receiver Austin Flynn have been selected to play for the first United States team at the 2007 World Championship of American Football, July 7-15 in Kawasaki, Japan. This is the third world championship staged by the International Federation of American Football (IFAF). Team USA will face Germany and Korea in pool play. Both Moorehead and Flynn finished their collegiate careers ISU last fall.
Moorehead, who played prep ball at Mason City-Newman, was a three-year starter who finished his career with 126 tackles and a school-record 19 sacks. Flynn passed for 1,541 yards and eight touchdowns as Iowa State's quarterback in 2003 and 2004. He made a successful switch to wide receiver for his junior and senior seasons, making 97 catches for 1,094 yards and three touchdowns in 2005 and 2006.
