The Iowa State volleyball team will open the 2007 season ranked No. 33 in the preseason CSTV/AVCA Division I Coaches Poll, released Tuesday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
The Cyclones, who finished 21-11 overall last year and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, received 39 votes. Five teams ranked in the top 25 are on the Cyclones' schedule, including top-ranked Nebraska and No. 4 Texas. The Cyclones will face both the Huskers and Longhorns twice in the regular season.
Iowa State returns three starters from last year's squad including AVCA Honorable Mention All-American Erin Boeve. Boeve and Kaylee Manns were recently voted to the preseason all-Big 12 team for the Cyclones, who were picked sixth in the league's preseason poll. Right side hitter Lauren Cummings and defensive specialist Laura Cady split time starting last season for the Cyclones and return for their senior campaigns.
The Cyclones will open their season on Sunday, Aug. 26, when they face Middle Tennessee at Hilton Coliseum. The Blue Raiders are ranked 44th in the preseason poll.
