ISU Throwback Auction To Begin

AMES, Iowa -- Here is your chance to acquire a bit of Iowa State gridiron history.

The Iowa State Athletics Department will debut on Monday a month-long online auction (at cyclones.com) of game-worn items from the Cyclones' "Throwback Game" with Iowa on Sept. 15. As a tribute to ISU's Peach Bowl team of 1977, the Cyclones will wear replica jerseys from that bowl game and 75 full throwback uniform packages (helmets, jerseys and pants) worn by the Cyclones against the Hawkeyes this year will be available to the highest bidders in four separate one-week long auctions between Aug. 20 and Sept. 14.

Bidding on the uniform packages will start at $350. Names will not be on the jerseys. Additionally, 20 throwback helmets signed by ISU head coach Gene Chizik will be up for auction. Bidding on the signed helmets will start at $200.

The “Throwback Game” celebrates the 30th anniversary of Iowa State's 1977 Peach Bowl squad. The Cyclones will wear replica uniforms ? white jerseys with cardinal/gold piping around the shoulders and cardinal numbers with a gold outline and gold pants ? very similar to what was worn in the Peach Bowl against North Carolina State. The Cyclones' helmet will be gold with the letters I-S-U on a capital letter I. Iowa State will also have an embroidered “Throwback Game” patch on its jersey. The University of Iowa has agreed to wear its black home jerseys for the game on Sept. 15.

Some uniform packages (helmet, jersey and pants ) will also be sold at www.gridironghosts.com in the weeks after the game. Gridiron Ghosts partnered with Iowa State on the “Throwback Game” concept. Fans with winning bids from the auctions can pick up their gear at the Jacobson Athletic Building in Ames or have the apparel mailed to them after the game when the gear will be laundered and packaged. Each package will include a certificate of authenticity.
