DES MOINES, Iowa ? Iowa State hit a season-high .348 and out blocked Iowa, 15.5 to 3, to defeat Iowa, 3-0 (30-25, 30-22, 30-23), Saturday afternoon in the Hampton Inn State of Iowa Collegiate Volleyball Challenge at the Knapp Center.
The win gives Iowa State two points and a 4-0 overall lead in the Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series. The Cyclones defeated the Hawkeyes in men's golf by 13 strokes in the Big Four meet on Tuesday to earn the first two points.
“It's nice to get the win and a couple of points for Iowa State in the Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series,” said ISU head coach Christy Johnson. “I'm happy with our serving, passing and defense. There are some nights when you might have some people off offensively, but if you can do those things well, you give yourself a chance.”
Lauren Cummings and Erin Boeve led the Cyclones (5-4) with 14 and 13 kills, respectively. Diane Kieger added nine kills and hit .667 and Mary Bisenius and Jen Malcom added eight and seven kills each. Freshman Ashley Mass had a match-high 15 digs while Malcom had seven block assists in the win.

The Hawkeyes would bounce back, taking the lead at 11-10 on a kill by Megan Schipper. ISU then turned to Cummings, as the senior from Ankeny, Iowa, scored the next two points on kills and the Cyclones never looked back.
The Cyclones hitting percentage dipped to a still respectable .294 in the second game, but the Cyclones cranked it up a notch on defense, holding the Hawkeyes to a .029 and out blocked Iowa, 7.5 to 1, to take the 30-22 win and go up 2-0 heading into the break. The Cyclones, who fell behind quickly at 5-2 on a kill by Megan Eskew, battled back to take the lead and scored nine of the final 11 points after the Hawkeyes cut the lead to 21-20.
