Cyclone Notebook
-Iowa State (10-6, 0-1) opens its Big 12 Conference home schedule by playing host to Missouri (11-5, 1-0) Wednesday night.
-Since the Big 12 was formed in 1996-97, the Cyclones have won their conference home opener eight out of 11 seasons, including the last two seasons.
-Wednesday night will be a special evening for Cyclone fans with the retiring of Barry Stevens' jersey at halftime...Stevens, an All-Century team member and the school's second-leading scorer, will have his No. 35 hanging in the rafters with six other Cyclone greats...Stevens was a two-time first-team all-Big Eight performer from 1982-85.
-Stevens, who passed away at the age of 43 on Feb. 21, 2007, will have members of his family in attendance to accept the prestigious honor.
-ISU's Rahshon Clark is closing in on an historic feat...the senior has 980 career points, needing 20 points to become the 26th member of the elite 1,000-point club at ISU...he is currently tied with Martin Rancik at No. 26 on ISU's all-time scoring charts.
-True freshman Craig Brackins made an auspicious Big 12 debut on Saturday, breaking the school mark for most points (33) and 3-pointers (8) by a freshman...the 33 points betters the old mark of 32 formerly shared by Barry Stevens (1981-82) and Curtis Stinson (2003-04).
Last Time Out
-Iowa State lost its Big 12 opener on Saturday, 74-67 to Baylor in Waco.
-The Cyclones held a seven-point lead (44-37) with less than 15 minutes remaining in the game, but a 22-2 Baylor run gave the Bears a lead they never relinquished.

-Brackins' 33 points was one point better than the old mark formerly held by Curtis Stinson (32 vs. Rutgers, 2003-04) and Barry Stevens (32 vs. Northern Iowa, 1981-82).
-His eight treys was one shy off ISU's single-game school mark (9 by Dedric Willoughby vs. Kansas in 1996-97) and it shattered the previous freshman standard formerly held by Jake Sullivan (6 vs. Kansas, 2000-01).
-Brackins' 12 field goals against the Bears ranks second to Ron Harris for most field goals made in a game by a rookie...Harris tallied 13 field goals against Drake in 1980-81.

Offensive Resurgence
-To say the Iowa State offense has been on its mark in its last eight games is an understatement...the Cyclones struggled in the early part of the season primarily because three of its top scorers were battling injuries.
-With the Cyclones finally getting through their injury bug, the ISU lineup has been running on all cylinders.
-In its last eight games, the Cyclones are averaging 75.2 points, shooting 48.4 percent from the field (215-444 FG), hitting 73.9 percent (116-157 FT) of its free-throws and making 37.8 percent (56-148 3FG) of its shots from downtown.

-Clark is the only four-year player left on the ISU roster and stuck with Coach McDermott when most of his teammates left after former coach Wayne Morgan was relieved of his duties.
-Clark is one of the most athletic and dynamic players in the Big 12...possessing a 39-inch vertical step jump, Clark's high-flying dunks have excited the Hilton crowd since 2004-05...Clark has 69 career dunks.
-Clark has jumped out to a fantastic start to 2007-08, averaging 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds...he is shooting 54.5 percent from the floor (60-110 FG)...he has been above 50 percent from the field in 11 of 16 games this season.

Brackins Making Solid Debut
-Heralded rookie sensation Craig Brackins, a 6-10 freshman from Palmdale, Calif., has been impressive in his inaugural season...Brackins, who has started every game so far, was outstanding in his first career game, recording a double-double vs. Winston-Salem State, the first Cyclone freshman to record double-digits in both points (13) and rebounds (10) in their first game.
-Brackins is second on the team in scoring at 12.3 ppg and has two double-doubles and three games with 20 or more points.
-Brackins has scored in double figures in nine of 16 games this season...he posted 23 points vs. Minnesota and Oregon State.
-Brackins was almost unstoppable in his Big 12 debut, breaking the school freshman scoring mark with 33 points on 12-of-17 shooting from the floor and an 8-of-10 effort from beyond the arc...the eight treys also broke the single-game freshman standard for 3-pointers in a game.

-Jiri Hubalek, a senior center from Prague, Czech Republic, has been a man on a mission in his last nine games.
-Hubalek had been slowed all season by a broken foot that occurred in the preseason and is now just hitting his stride.
-Hubalek always has been a slow starter...he averaged 7.3 points and 4.8 rebounds in his first six games last year, but responded by averaging 12.4 points and 7.4 rebounds in his last 19 games a year ago.
-This year, Hubalek averaged 7.8 points and shot 40 percent (22-55 FG) in his first seven games...however, Hubalek is averaging 15.0 points (135) and is shooting 54.6 percent (47-86 FG) in his last nine games.
-Hubalek ranks fifth in the Big 12 in free-throw percentage (78.0) and has made 84.2 percent (32-38 FT) of his foul shots in the last eight games.
-Hubalek has led ISU in rebounding in 10 of 16 games this season and currently ranks fifth in the Big 12 on the boards with a 7.5 rpg average...his rebounding numbers are even more significant when you take into consideration he is averaging just 22.5 minutes per game.
-Hubalek opened the second half vs. Purdue by scoring ISU's first 16 points in just over a five-minute span...he ended the game with 18 points to help him earn all-tournament honors at the Las Vegas Classic.
-Has has two 20-point games, two double-doubles and a team-high four double-digit rebounding efforts.
Wesley Johnson On The Mend
-ISU's top returning scorer from last season Wesley Johnson got off to a slow start because of injuries...Johnson missed the first four games of the season while nursing a bone bruise in his left foot.
-Although not at 100 percent, Johnson's progress is a positive sign for the Cyclones...Johnson is averaging a team-high 12.5 points and has 21 3-pointers in 12 games.
-In his last six games, Johnson is averaging 15.5 points...he has been in double figures in the last six games.
-Johnson tied his career high with five treys against Albany, scoring 15 points on five-straight possessions in a 3-minute span.
-Johnson is 12-for-29 (41.3 percent) from downtown in his last five games.
-Johnson has nine double figure scoring games and has led ISU in scoring five of 12 games played this year.
Garrett Fitting In
-ISU's improved play has a direct correlation with freshman reserve point guard Diante Garrett's emergence as a leader on the team.

You're In Good Hands With Petersen
-ISU starting point guard Bryan Petersen may not be the flashiest player, but he has done a tremendous job of starting ISU's offense and taking care of the ball.
-Petersen leads ISU in assists (3.2) and ranks fourth in the Big 12 and 52nd nationally in assist/turnover ratio at 2.26 a/t.
-Petersen has put together an amazing streak of ball protection and efficiency...the recruited walk-on who is now on scholarship has 34 assists and just five turnovers in his last nine games (6.8 a/t ratio)...in seven of the last nine games he has had 0 turnovers.
-Petersen, who averages 5.8 ppg, has hit a team-high 24 3-pointers to boot...24 of his 26 field goals this season have come from long distance.

Cyclones To Retire Barry Stevens' No. 35
-Barry Stevens, who is ISU's second-leading scorer in school history (2,190 points), will have his jersey retired on Jan. 16 against Missouri...Stevens, who was a two-time first-team all-Big Eight choice in 1984 and 1985, died of a heart attack at the age of 43 on Feb. 21, 2007.
-Stevens is one of seven players in ISU history to have his jersey retired: Waldo Wegner (#14), Gary Thompson (#20) Zaid Abdul-Aziz (#35), Jeff Hornacek (#14), Jeff Grayer (#44) and Fred Hoiberg (#32).
Barry Stevens - 1982-85
Barry Stevens' uncanny long-range shooting and outstanding athletic ability was a perfect fit in Johnny Orr's up-tempo style that helped resurrect the ISU program in the 1980s. The smooth-shooting forward ended his career as ISU's all-time leading scorer - he now ranks second - with 2,190 points. A two-time first-team all-Big Eight selection (1984, 1985), Stevens averaged 21.7 ppg as a senior in 1985 to pace ISU to its first NCAA appearance since 1944. He has the school's second-best single game scoring mark with 47 points.
