IRVING, Texas-- Iowa State sophomore guard Wesley Johnson recorded a pair of 20-point games in two Cyclone Big 12 Conference wins last week to help him earn Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week for games played from Jan. 14-20.
Johnson, a native of Corsicana, Texas, averaged 22.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in wins over Missouri (72-67) and Oklahoma State (73-66). Johnson posted his first double-double of the season with 20 points and 11 boards in the MU victory and he followed up that effort with a career-high 24 points on an 8-of-15 performance from the field against OSU. Johnson, who leads the team in scoring at 13.9 ppg, has been in double figures in eight consecutive games.
This is the first weekly honor for Johnson this season and third of his career. Johnson won player of the week and rookie of the week honors one time each as a freshman last year.
