AMES, Iowa - Iowa State volleyball player Victoria Henson has been named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for Oct. 13-19. The award is the first of Henson's career and makes her the first Cyclone to earn the offensive honor.
Henson was unstoppable for the Cyclones last week, averaging 5.75 kills per set and hitting .418 from her outside hitter position. The sophomore from Leavenworth, Kan., averaged 6.13 points per set as ISU went 1-1 on the week.
Henson opened the week with 16 kills while hitting a career-best .652 in a three-set sweep of Texas Tech. She also had a service ace, solo block, two block assists and four digs against the Red Raiders.
Henson followed up her impressive midweek performance with a career-high 30 kills at Colorado, becoming the first Cyclone to reach the 30-kill plateau in over a decade. The last player to do so for Iowa State was Virginia Hoss, 318 matches ago in a 1998 match against IUPUI. She hit .321 in the contest against the Buffaloes.
Henson's honor marks the third Big 12 weekly honor for the Cyclones this season. Libero Ashley Mass has received defensive honors twice in 2008.
Texas' libero Heather Kisner received this week's defensive player of the week honor, while Oklahoma's Sarah Freudenrich was named the league's top rookie.
