IRVING, Texas ? Four Iowa State volleyball players were among the 48 student-athletes named to the 2008 Academic All-Big 12 team announced Tuesday by the league.
Diane Kieger, Kaylee Manns and Amy Vos earned first-team accolades with Mary Bisenius earning second-team honors.

Shoreview, Minn. native Diane Kieger captured first-team honors for the first time in her career. The hotel, restaurant, and institutional management major is ninth in the Big 12 averaging 0.90 blocks per set.
Junior setter Kaylee Manns received first-team accolades after being a second-team selection a year ago. The Topeka, Kan. native is an advertising major and three-year starter for the Cyclones. Manns owns the top-three single-season assists per set averages in school history and could become just the second player in school history to surpass the 4,000 assist mark in the Cyclones' next match.
Bisenius, a first-time honoree, is a senior outside hitter from Sioux City, Iowa. The design major was named the MVP of the Iowa State Tournament this year and used her education to assist the volleyball team off the court as well, designing t-shirts for the team's “Dig Pink” night. She also designed “Block Party” shirts that are thrown out to fans throughout each home match.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the volleyball academic all-league team consisted of 40 first-team members combined with eight on the second team. A student-athlete must maintain a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the last two semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshman and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence and seniors are exempt from the participation rules.
